"HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles" (hondasfordsvolvo)

I’m currently searching for a used car for a friend. He has a very rusty 06 Ford Focus that he has cleverly named Rusty. He’s had it about 10 years and it’s just too far gone in the rust department. Anyway my search led me to a White 2011 JSW TDI. And check out these seats. green and yellow plaid! Honestly I dig it.
Other options include a 2010 Mazda6, an 09 Vibe, and an 09 Fit. This car is for a man who has been driving a rust bucket Focus for the last 5-6 years and just dealing with it. So to say he likes to pinch pennies would be an understatement. Also he prefers small cars. He does have a sense of style tho. He’s a sharp dresser and he bought his wife a blue Ford Fusion with the 1.6 Ecoboost.

Factory or not that is glorious. I keep thinking about checking the cost to redo my seats in tartan, but I don’t know of a good interior shop near me.
Oh, and according to my wife I have better things to save money for or some such nonsense.

If he likes pinching pennies, I imagine the maintenance/upkeep on the Fit would be the cheapest.

That or the Vibe with its Camry powertrain. And the Vibe is over 3 grand cheaper

I keep trying to decide how I’ll squirrel money away to hide the “actual” cost of any future project.
Anyone need a kidney around here or maybe a small piece of only mildly abused liver?

Fit, hands down. Most practical, reliable, fun, and that's the best generation too.

Last time I had a project car I just sold my DD and made it my daily driven project. So after buying the car I had 3,000 bucks laying around for parts and tools... and then I sank another grand into it after that. And Most of the time I had to drive my wife’s car to bike to work.
It was great...

They are pretty neat. Very 70s. I could see them in a 914, or old Celica

I would tend to agree. He’s thinking Corolla but I think while the Corolla has a higher perceived value, and resale cost to go with it, I think the Fit is just as economic and more practical.
My theory for the Corolla’s perceived value is just the history behind the name. Corolla has been king of the small sedan value market for 30 years while the Fit has only been around for like 12 years and the first gen had a few major problems

If he's pinching pennies, the Fit or Vibe would get my vote.

You know, I had completely forgotten the second gen Mazda 6 existed.

I like them quite a bit. I drove one back in 2013 and if it had been manual I probably would have bought it.
